Donate an Hour is a fundraising initiative of Newcastle Airport. Every cent you give will be donated to the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation to help those in the Hunter and Central Coast regions that are fighting breast cancer right now.
They offer support to women and men currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer, by offering practical grassroots assistance; no matter what stage of the cancer battle they're in. What this means is that the Foundation can provide a support with those day-to-day tasks which, when we're healthy and well, we can normally do without thinking.
When you donate an hour of your pay, the Foundation will use
this money to help provide their
grassroots services, which are offered to local breast cancer patients, free of charge.
These services include:
You don't think twice about vacuuming the floor when you're feeling well. But, it's a mission and a half when you're undergoing radiation or chemotherapy. In addition, if you're not feeling well, your family and friends want to spend time with you, rather than completing your household tasks.
The Foundation organises for someone to come and clean local breast cancer suffers' homes.
Undergoing breast cancer treatment can be a financial drain, with the sufferer often unable to work for long periods. The Foundation recognises this burden and is able to offer financial assistance or scholarships for the children of sufferers.
The Foundation produce post-surgery Comfort Cushions for patients who have undergone breast surgery. The cushion provides the remaining breast tissue support and protection post-surgery.
The cushions have been produced by the Foundation since it was established over 10 years ago and are made by teams of volunteers.
Your contribution will allow the Foundation to offset the cost of hygiene-grade materials for the cushions.
Many breast cancer sufferers have a great family support network. However, when someone is undergoing breast cancer treatment, there can often be a large amount of time required to go to and from medical appointments.
Many breast cancer patients find that those in their support networks run out of annual or personal leave to help out. This is where the Foundation can help. The Foundation has a team of volunteer drivers who transport patients to and from their medical appointments. Your money helps pay for their fuel and to manage the complex scheduling required.
Just like house cleaning, you don’t think twice about pulling out the lawn mower or whipper snipper when you’re feeling well. But, when you’re undergoing radiation or chemotherapy, it’s a mission. Add to this, your friends and family want to spend time with you, not mowing your lawn or weeding your garden beds.
The Foundation organises for someone to come and mow local breast cancer suffers lawns and/or tend to their gardens.
Be sure to come back and check up on how much money you've helped raise.

Newcastle Airport developed Donate an Hour to support its Charity of Choice, the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation. The Airport has selected the Foundation as its chosen charity following staff and volunteer members being diagnosed with this disease.
For the past five years Newcastle Airport has held a Charity Golf Day and to raise money for the Foundation, and has handed over $165,000.
In late 2013, the Airport was looking for a new way to engage the local community in supporting its chosen charity. That’s when the idea of Donate an Hour was conceived. The Airport worked with the Foundation to develop the idea and in May 2014 was delighted to launch this website.
Newcastle Airport has paid for all the development, backend and set-up costs for this website to ensure that all monies raised go directly to the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation to help them deliver their services.
